The Museum

The National Museum of Natural History was officially inaugurated in June 1973. It is housed in an eighteenth century palace in Mdina. The building which was originally the seat of the medieval Universita was partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1693. In 1724 Grand Master Antonio Monoel de Vilhena decided to restructure the old building which is still known today as Vilhena Palace.
